Aslam’s Plight pt 1

I still have no idea how we arrived at this god forsaken place. The woman before would not stop crying, the lost of her husband has her in a state of shock. She begged us to seek the one who caused her so much grief. To seek the elusive castle.

We went to the tavern to and I got a bad feeling about this whole place. Everyone seemed on edge and afraid to talk. Even as our priest dangled a few extra copper for information, people seem as if they were in a haze, unconcerned or had nothing to live for. I hate this god forsaken place the very air howls as an eerie cry for help.

Finally we got a good lead in another tavern. Mental note I am so sick of taverns and this god forsaken place.

Donavich

Donavich

Our contact name was Donavich and he was going to tell us how to get to the castle. He said what we already suspected that it was not safe to talk in public. For that matter it was not safe to talk anywhere.

Donavich invited us to his home and as he started to explain castle Ravenloft we heard screaming and moaning.

“Father I am hungry”

Donavich tried to distract us and told us we should bury the woman’s husband before nightfall.

“Father, why are you ignoring me I am hungry”

Vornagust asked “What is that?” to Donavich.

Donavich in vain tried to convinced us that it was nothing. But the party pushed the issue and finally he broke down. He cursed the castle Ravenloft and said his son Doru was bitten by the monster. Everyone wanted to move on and bury the woman husband, however I had enough.

“I am sorry for your loss, and sorry for your loss again”

“What do you mean?” Donavich eyes shifted as he looked at me.

“I am going to sever your son’s head from his body”

“Why, he is a good boy?”

“The best we can do for him is a quick swift death”

Vornagust intervene and said “We will do everything we can to try and save your son”

I looked at him skeptically.

Frost seemed to agree with Vornagust so I relented and just followed along.

We went down the stairs and the creature hissed at us.

Doru

Doru

Vornagust and Frost went first and tried to reason with him. The two holy men discussed their options and how to grant this creature salvation.

I hate this god forsaken place. I approached the creature and told him “Close your eyes and I promise to make it swift and painless”

“Stay away from me” he hissed “I can smell your blood”

“It is ok” I reassured him “I promise to make is swift and painless as possible”

“I said stay away” He yelled.

I swiftly attacked the creature, and on that day I learned a valuable lesson. Never underestimated your opponent. The creature retaliated and clawed me twice with his bare dirty finger nails. Its nails was as hard as steel and cut my flesh as easily as a knife going through  moist cake. I almost lost my life to that attack. I remember then why I prefer the archery fighting style.

Vornagust quickly came to my aid provoking the creature’s wrath, while Frost healed my wounds.

I felt the holy energy surge through my body and those wounds healed but I was still bruised as a reminder for my reckless nature. My encounters with creatures of the dead is not so great, if I plan to draw breath until a ripe old age I will have to do better.

Caine joined the fray and it took the combined might of all four of us to end this creatures misery. I landed the final killing blow, but before my sword struck, I apologized to him for taking so long to end his misery. After his death I severed he head to ensure he would not come back to life.

We had to explain to Donavich that we could not save his son. He sobbed and blamed himself for not having strong enough faith to help his son. Vonragust and Frost assured Donavich that he was blameless and that his son is finally at peace.

He then begged us to help protect Ireena from the evil of the land. He asked us to escort her to safety.

We agreed but I fear our adventure is just now starting and it looks like the road ahead is a gloomy one.

god I hate this forsake place!
