Know Thy Players – The Return Home (January 2020)

Game Date: 1/25/20

My weary players were returning to a inn that was nestle halfway between their home of Abilene. Being very inquisitive and really asking probing questions the deduced from the Inn keeper that they may be visit by the dead.

As Celia the party’s druid pressed the inn keeper for more information she was attacked by a ghost in the courtyard. This proved to be tricky for the party as they rushed to Celia aid. The ghost was hovering over the courtyard and since they were on the second floor they had now way off attacking it but through range attacks.

Most of their range attacks prove ineffective against the ghost.

I was impressed at my groups tactics and how they handle the situation. Jason Blade the paladin taunted the ghost to get it to come attack it in melee. While the other party members attacked once it was in range.

The highlights of the game were:

  • Combat where the surroundings matter
  • The party’s team work
  • Speed of gameplay (less searching for rules)

The low points of the game were:

  • Some of the dynamic lighting features were preventing player movement
  • Not enough time to start the next chapter 😉

This adventure ended with Holly under pain requesting another quest to the players. This time they are to bring the remains of a fallen Abilene adventure back to town for a proper burial. This opened up a whole can of worms and the players started to discuss how they felt about this and their wishes should they fall in battle.

Crum the orcish barbarian led most of the conversation as he opposed what he consider desecrating the body of the fallen adventure whose name happens to be Steon.

The session was a great success with the majority of the party advancing to level two. I am impressed with Roll 20 as once the players updated their levels in Roll 20 it handled their skills and hit points 🙂
