The Icy Spire (H-60)

The party instructs the Emerald Cabal to deliver a ciphered message to the Lord Magistrate of the capital city of Dagin (Lord Prio) about the current status of the Orc invasion in Issia before departing for the Acuben Islands in search of the Icy Spire.

The party locates the Icy Spire, while managing to conduct hit and run tactics on the Orc Horde. The party discover the Icy Spire is in a valley and are surprised the defender of the Icy Spire is a young white dragon. The party defeats the white dragon of the valley of ice in the Acuben Islands and search the area to discover a large alcove that served as the dragon’s lair. Several coins are scattered about the area, with valuable gems, jewels, and art objects. Dug into the snow are weapons, armor and a series of miscellaneous items the dragon has collected from adventurers that failed to defeat it.

The party rest long enough to gather all their strength before entering the Icy Spire and have several dangerous encounters (animated constructs, medusa, and magical traps) before they recover the Badntzite key for the “unseen vault” from the guardian of the Icy Spire (Ice Golem). After defeating the Ice Golem on top of the Icy Spire, Ser Phillip approaches the Frost Gem and senses the magical sapphire is tainted by evil. Ser Phillip attempts to cleanse the gem of its corruption and succeeds, resulting in the Sapphire glowing brightly with a cold rhythmic pulse as the Icy Spire begins to collapse.

The party manages to escape the Icy Spire unharmed with the Badntzite Frost Gem in their possession making the journey much more dangerous than ever before, as the party travel back to the city of Parador.

A few days pass on the trading ship the party managed to board incognito, but the journey takes much longer than usual due to the difficulty of navigating in snowy weather, giving Greytome enough time to study the Frost Gem. Greytome determines the Frost Gem is a fey relic from the Unseelie Court, explaining the early arrival of the coldest winter in Northern Argoth’s (Issian) history. Ser Phillip senses the Frost Gem is celestial related and can’t help but think it has a will of its own.

Arthion mentions that balance and order needs to be maintained in all things that breathe life or the consequences for interfering with the natural order of things could be disastrous. Hearing Greytome speak about the Unseelie Court, Arthion decides to educate the party on the two major factions in the fey realm.

The Seelie court are known to seek help from humans, to warn those who have accidentally offended them, and to return human kindness with favors of their own. Still, a fairy belonging to this court will avenge insults and could be prone to mischief. The most common time of day to see them is twilight. Other names for the Seelie court are ‘The Shining Throne’ or ‘The Summer Court’. Seelies are known for playing pranks on humans and having a light hearted attitude, forgetting their sorrows quickly and not realizing how they might be affecting the humans they play pranks on.

The Unseelie Court consists of the darkly-inclined fairies. Unlike the Seelie Court, no offense is necessary to bring down their assaults. As a group, they appear at night and assault travelers, often carrying them through the air, beating them, and forcing them to commit such acts as mutilating cattle. Like the beings of the Seelie Court who are not always benevolent, neither are the fairies of the Unseelie Court always malevolent. Other names for the Unseelie court are ‘The Dark Throne’ or the ‘Winter Court’. Most Unseelies can become fond of a particular human if they are viewed as respectful, and would choose to make them something of a pet.

The party manages to sneak into the city of Parabor unnoticed with the help of the Emerald cabal and prepare to open the Unseen Vault of Parabor that is convenitaly built under the Beacon of Hope (temple). Yelsa Hodwick mentions the vault is said to contain powerful artifacts that can rival lesser gods such as Kyuss (The Crow King) and Torag (The Dwarven God of the Earth).

The party unlock the vault and enter to only discover one item: An IRON FLASK of cold iron design. Yelsa Hodwick mentions this particular flask with a brass stopper must be the legendary Iron Flask of Billaro that can contain any target that is native to a plane of existence other than the one you’re on, the target will be trapped in the flask. A creature trapped in the flask doesn’t need to breathe, eat, or drink and doesn’t age. Yelsa states the flask could possibly capture an entity as powerful as Kyuss (Crow King) given the proper circumstance.

As the party claim the Iron Flask of Billaro, they are ambushed by a squad of Ghost Faced Orogs (Elite Enforcers of the Fist of Heaven) and a deadly battle ensues for possession of the Iron Flask of Billaro. The party barely manage to defeat the Ghost Faced Orogs and are told to leave the city of Parabor immediately before the full force of the Orc Horde fall upon them.

The Emerald Cabal under the direction of their leader (Chris Character) sacrifice several resistance members to delay the Orc Horde, so the party may get back to the Gate Stone. The Emerald Cabal mention that a Loomwarden from Skywatch Tower has discovered a way of activating the Gate Stone and that getting the Flask of Billaro out of the reach of the Orc Horde is a priority and could be the turning point of the war if Kyuss (Crow King) is removed from the battlefield.

The party arrive to the Gate Stone after dealing with a few Orcs along the way and witness the Loomwarden sacrificing himself to activate the Gate Stone long enough for the party to return to the point of origin (a few miles from the city of a Tarsis). The Emerald Cabal mention they will destroy the Gate Stone of Parabor at all cost to ensure the Orc Horde never use it again. The party enter the Stone Gate and make haste to the capital city of Dagin to report/update King Marek Surtova of everything that has happened.
